Are 2-in-1 Shampoos good?

Many people, especially men tend to resort to using 2-in-1 shampoos due to its convenience as there is one less step taken away after shampooing your hair. But is a 2-in-1 shampoo really worth shorter showers at the expense of your hair?

Here are some of the reasons why you should think twice before using a 2-in-1 shampoo:

2-in-1 Shampoo may result in an oily, unhealthy scalp

A 2-in-1 shampoo may cause product build up. When you use a 2-in-1 shampoo on your hair the conditioner is usually left behind on your scalp. Not only will your scalp feel greasy, your hair would start feeling dry, tangle and/or break.

2-in-1 Shampoo may dry your hair

An ingredient that is commonly found in these 2-in-1 shampoo is Dimenthicone which is a type of silicon and is used to make your hair feel smooth. However, it only forms a layer of protection on your hair but does not deeply moisturize it. If a separate conditioner were to be used, it would be able to more effectively bring back moisture into your hair as the cleansing properties in most shampoos can dry out your hair.

The verdict?

Try sticking to using shampoo and conditioner products separately to avoid any unwanted hair complications. If there really is a need to use a 2-in-1 shampoo, try to use it no more than 2 times per week and ensure that you have a clarifying shampoo to remove any product that is left on the scalp. Nonetheless, 2-in-1 shampoos are still not recommended for those with long hair.
