Wondering if Hair Loss is something that can be reversed? Is it permanent or temporary? Read more to find out why we experience hair loss and what we can do about it!

Hair loss or Alopecia is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles and this attack causes hair to fall out or become thinner. There are many factors or reasons why hair loss occurs, here are some of the common reasons:

Genetics
Genetics plays a large role in hair loss that occurs with aging and is the most common factor. Although genetic hair loss cannot be reversed, there are ways to slow it down and to encourage hair growth.

What you could do: Use the right products

Most commercial shampoo contains chemical ingredients that are harsh on your hair since they strip your hair of natural oil and fatty acids that make your hair strong & supple. Switching shampoos can help if you feel that your hair is falling out excessively.

Shampoos like Chanamu Tea Tree Shampoo that cleanses and moisturizes dry scalp and hair. With its antibacterial properties, Tea Tree Oil inside helps to cleanse the hair follicles and promote hair growth.

A scalp tonic like Scalp Care Tonic contains Thyme extract, which is especially helpful in treating hair loss. Thyme helps to improve blood circulation, improves hair thickness and restore hair growth.

You could further nourish your scalp with a scalp multivitamin. Chanamu Scalp Multivitamin Treatment contains nutmeg extract that helps promote hair growth and improve scalp circulation. On top of that, this bottle of vitamin is packed with Aloe Vera extract, Commiphora Myrrha Resin Extract, Angelica Archangelica Leaf Extract, Linseed Acid extract, Pepper Seed Extract, Ginger Root Extract, White Turmeric Oil and Cardamom Seed Extract, which will help promote healthy hair and scalp!

Stress
Telogen effluvium is a condition in which a large amount of a person's hair fall out due to long-term stress, this could be physical or mental. Fortunately, this is usually temporary and hair will start to grow back within 3 to 6 months. A change in lifestyle and a dietary change may even aid hair growth.

What you could do: Reduce Stress
Lower stress levels will reduce the number of hair forced to the resting phase. Find activities that would help you to mediate and practice relaxation techniques.

Medical conditions
Certain medical conditions, such as scalp ringworm or lupus, can also cause hair loss.

Scalp Ringworm a fungal infection can be solved with home remedies or with professional help. Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, has no cure. This means that you can manage it with treatments but it will not go away. In most cases hair will grow back when your lupus is treated. Some people however may develop round lesions on the scalp, this scars your hair follicle causing permanent hair loss.

What you could do: Medication
For medical conditions like Lupus, you will need to seek professional help and medical advice. General treatments include anti-inflammatory medicines like Ibuprofen, steroid tablets, injections and creams for kidney inflammation and rashes.

For fungal infections like Scalp Ringworms, can be cured with over-the-counter medicated shampoo, antifungal cream or drug.

Nutritional deficiencies
Hair loss can be caused by nutritional deficiencies, such as a lack of iron or vitamin D. The hair loss to the effects of malnutrition can be reversed once a person regains nutrition stability for at least 6 months.

What you could do: Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is crucial, an unhealthy diet can cause nutritional imbalance and inflammation. Food like carrots or salmon can help promote hair growth and lubricate the scalp

For genetic hair loss we've covered that though we may not be able to stop or reverse it, with the help of the right hair care product you could slow it down. For medical conditions, you may be able to solve with over the counter medicated creams or shampoos. But in situations where you're unsure we'd still recommend you to get professional help. Hair loss due to one's lifestyle like being overly stress and taking in insufficient nutrients you would most probably be able to notice an improvement once you've changed some routines in your lifestyle!
